Journey of

Coffee

from

Yemen to the United States

Coffee Picking in Yemen

1. Harvesting:
   - Coffee cherries are hand-picked, typically from September to March. Farmers select ripe cherries, which are often bright red.
   - This labor-intensive process relies on experienced pickers who can distinguish between ripe and unripe cherries.

2. Processing:
   - Traditional Methods:
After picking, cherries are processed using the dry method. They are spread out in the sun to dry, enhancing flavor and sweetness.

   - Hulling:
Once dried, the outer layers are removed to extract the green coffee beans.

3. Quality Control:
   - Farmers assess quality through cupping, ensuring that only the best beans are prepared for export.

1. Exporting:
   - Processed green coffee beans are packed in burlap sacks and shipped to the port.

2. Shipping:
   - The beans are loaded onto cargo ships, traveling through various shipping routes. This journey can take several weeks.

3. Arrival in the USA:
   - Once they arrive at U.S. ports, the beans undergo customs clearance. Importers and distributors handle the logistics of moving them to roasting facilities.

4. Roasting:
   - Coffee is roasted by our supplier at their local roastery

5. Distribution:
   - Roasted coffee is packaged and arrives to our cafe
